VETERANS DAY RIDE

Today we all took a nice leisurely ride on Veteran's Day to honor those who have served our country and paid the ultimate sacrafice, Hickam Area Cycling Club did our yearly ride to Punchbowl Cemetery. We all left Hickam gym at 0630 and arrived at Punchbowl 30 mins early. Some of the riders opted to ride up Tantalus while some of us stayed back and relaxed on the grass. We noticed that a guy on the golf cart was at the entrance for awhile. Once we decided to go in, he told us that we were not allowed to ride our bicycles in. We asked why and he said stated a Honolulu Penal Code that he knew nothing about.

We responded with "You allow motorcycles" but not bicycles. 20 military personnel rode here to pay respect, what a way to start a day. Once we talked to the manager they allowed us to come in and take a picture at the flagpole. We headed out and to a coffee shop in Kaimuki. It seemed that our GPS navigation system called "john-john" needed to be calibrated! The group split into 2 and some went 200 yards to a little hole in the wall bakery called Scones. It was awesome!
The group split in 3 as we headed back to Hickam. It was an unusual day with a supporter flying us the bird in downtown Honolulu. I thought to myself that I am wasting my valuable tax dollars on this person and she should do us all a favor and step in front of a bus! I think we had caught every light in Honolulu today but the main mission was to honor the veterans at the cemetery. Mission completed...
