Castle to Hanauma Time Trial
Today was the second race of the season and HACC once again did exceptionally well! The weather held out and the pre -race morning warm up was humid. The times were going to be fast! This year I was able to close the gap on HACC Daddy which has put over 1-2 minutes on me in the past. This course has 3 climbs and I have been working a little on my climbing this year. My strategy was to hold back some and then ride hard on the hills. I used this race to gauge my 40K time trial preparations. I wanted to see what 24-25 mph avg would be this time of the year. I feel that I am right on track and more prepared than where I was this time last year and was able to better my time by 2 mins. John Girmsey, Casey Tucker and Amy Thomas garnished hardware for the team.

Casey has been nervous about this years race season. I keep telling him to relax and don't worry about it. This year should be a learning curve and he should gain the experience. With the upcoming crits and road races, you need team mates and there is so much strategy involved. You can be the strongest guy out there but the pack can gobble you up and spit you out. This year we have several criteriums scheduled. This races require lots of bike handling and insane attacks and accelerations.
On another note, our buddy Bryant Haffler just completed Ironman New Zealand in a sub 10 hour finish time! Thus, getting a qualifying slot to the MACK DADDY of all triathlons! See Bryant cross the finish line sporting his HACC colors!
