CASTLE TO HANAUMA TIME TRIAL RESULTS - OMG, WHAT DID I JUST DO? POP!
This weekend has been filled with pre race excitement! Yesterday (Saturday) and rode the Castle to Hanauma Time Trial course. I threw on some brand new Michelin Pro Race 3's and headed out with Casey and Dev. 2 mins after we started I had a front tire flat. After spending some time on the road, I was off and riding again. On the way back I run over another piece of glass again resulting in a rear flat! My god braddah's stop throwing green Heiniken bottles out of da cars! Take your Opala to da trash can!Hoping that the bad luck would end there. I picked up Casey at 0445 and while loading his bike on the roof I closed the oversized 9mm Yakima skewer on my fnger! OOOOOOUCH! No frekin way I said. After dislogging my finger, blood was dripping everywhere. I wrapped the finger and headed to pick up Dev. He patched me up and headed to the race.
The race started on time and I was about the 12 rider or so. It was till windy as hell with gust blowing in the high 30's. Ed "Hele" Kurzenski said it might be better to ride a standard spoked wheel. I didnt listen but changed my Zipp 1080 to a Zipp 808. I was still getting blown all over at 30mph! I felt really well and turned in my fastest time on the course in 29:50. Not bad for a 12 mile course with 2 climbs and crazy headwind! I think I finished 5th and will post finishers wen they are available.
After the race I said that the bad luck was over, I was wrong, 2 miles from the car I heard a loud hiss and blew a brand new rear Continental Tubular tire! Shit! Only had 30 miles on the tire and cost me $90.00! So I walked back while Casey and Dev headed back to the wagon. I finally get there and loaded my bike on the roof. Changed into dry clothes and close the hatchback. After slamming it shut, I noticed it did not close all the way. WTF? I looked down and my race skewer was stuck between hatch and bumber. My god when will this end? I won this Tiki last weekend at the Coast Guard Triathlon, Hmmmmmm, every see the Brady Bunch episode when they took the tiki back to the hotel?
